We look forward to serving you!

Another Beautiful Catalpa Concrete Project in Boise!

Catalpa Concrete recently completed a full driveway replacement project for a homeowner in Meridian, Idaho. The existing driveway was made of asphalt, which had deteriorated over time with cracking, rutting, and drainage issues.

The homeowner decided it was time for an upgrade—not just for appearance, but for strength and longevity. Our crew removed the failing asphalt, reinforced the base, and poured a brand-new concrete driveway built to last for decades.

What service do you need?

We started by tearing out the original asphalt surface, which had become rough, uneven, and difficult to maintain. Using heavy equipment, we broke up the asphalt and hauled it off-site, exposing the subgrade beneath.

In many cases, asphalt driveways don’t have the same compacted base requirements as concrete, so we took the time to regrade and properly compact the base to provide the new concrete with the stable foundation it needs.

Site Prep and Base Grading

With the asphalt removed, we moved into prepping the subgrade. This often-overlooked step is critical to the long-term performance of the concrete.

We regraded the area to establish proper slope for drainage, filled in any low spots, and compacted the soil thoroughly.

A well-prepped and compacted base ensures the new concrete will sit evenly and resist cracking or shifting over time.

Forms Installed and Rebar Grid Laid

Once the base was compacted and ready, we installed sturdy form boards to shape the new concrete driveway.

Slope and elevation were carefully calculated to direct water away from the home and eliminate the pooling issues the old asphalt had developed.

To reinforce the new slab, we laid a steel rebar grid throughout the form.

This reinforcement adds major durability and helps the concrete withstand seasonal movement, daily vehicle traffic, and long-term wear without cracking or shifting.

Concrete Poured and Finished with Care

With the forms and rebar in place, we moved on to pouring the concrete. Our team worked quickly and precisely to place the concrete evenly, screed the surface, and ensure proper slope for drainage. Using bull floats and edging tools, we shaped the slab for a clean, professional finish.

Control joints were added to help prevent cracking and manage natural expansion. We applied a light broom finish to create subtle texture for grip without compromising the clean look.

Once complete, the slab was left to cure properly, resulting in a strong, attractive driveway that’s built to last and easy to maintain.
